Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying's Regular Press Conference on October 26, 2015

At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, President François Hollande of the Republic of France will pay a state visit to China from November 2 to 3.

At the invitation of President Park Geun-hye of the Republic of Korea, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council will pay an official visit to the ROK from October 31 to November 2 and attend the sixth trilateral leaders' meeting of China, Japan and the ROK in Seoul.

At the invitation of Foreign Minister Wang Yi, President of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft will visit China from October 26 to 29.

Q: It will be the first trilateral leaders' meeting of China, Japan and the ROK after three years of suspension and Premier Li Keqiang's first visit to the ROK after taking office. What is China's expectation for the visit? What is the significance of the visit?

A: China, Japan and the ROK are major economies in East Asia and important Asian countries. Trilateral cooperation between China, Japan and the ROK is part and parcel of East Asian cooperation and the major driving force for regional cooperation, delivering tangible benefits to people from the three countries. Trilateral cooperation over recent years has encountered some obstacles because of reasons known to all. The Chinese side hopes that the resumption of the trilateral meeting after three years of suspension will be taken as an opportunity to chart the course for future trilateral cooperation based on a review of the past, enhance trilateral cooperation in traditional competitive fields such as business, culture and sustainable development, and expand cooperation in international production capacity, innovative economy, information technology, poverty reduction and other emerging areas. We hope that all parties will properly handle sensitive issues including the issue of history in the spirit of facing squarely the history and looking into the future, so as to ensure the sound and steady growth of trilateral cooperation and bring benefits to the three countries and people of the region.

Exchanges and cooperation between China and the ROK in a variety of areas have entered a fast track of comprehensive and in-depth development. Leaders of the two countries have met frequently on different occasions and agreed to make every endeavor to become each other's partners for common development, regional peace, Asian renewal and world prosperity.

This visit will be Premier Li Keqiang's first visit to the ROK after taking office and the first visit by a Chinese premier to the ROK in five years. It will give a strong boost to the development of China-ROK relations. The Chinese side hopes to blaze new trails, explore new areas and foster new highlights for bilateral cooperation across the board through the visit. During his visit, Premier Li Keqiang will hold talks with President Park Geun-hye, meet with Chung Ui-hwa, Speaker of the National Assembly of the ROK and ROK Prime Minsiter Hwang Kyo-ahn, and attend a series of major activities for trade and culture. The two sides will have thorough discussions on how to build up political mutual trust, align their respective strategies for national development, and deepen economic and financial cooperation as well as cultural exchanges. They will enhance coordination on regional and international issues of common interest. It is believed that the visit will further promote China-ROK relations and contribute to regional peace, development and prosperity.

Q: First, what is the specific date for the trilateral leaders' meeting? Second, is the Chinese side consulting with the Nepali side about providing fuel for Nepal? Can you give us more details?

A: On your first question, as I just said, Premier Li Keqiang will pay an official visit to the ROK from October 31 to November 2 and attend the sixth trilateral leaders' meeting of China, Japan and the ROK.

On your second question, the Chinese side is ready to offer necessary assistance at the request of the Nepali government as a friendly neighbor to relieve its shortage of fuel supply. The Chinese and Nepali sides are in close communication on that.

Q: During Premier Li Keqiang's visit to the ROK, will there be a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe?

A: To my knowledge, the two sides are in communication on the relevant issue.

Q: The Indian media reportedly released a video footage about the confrontation between Chinese and Indian border troops from 2012 to 2013. What is China's comment on that?

A: I have noted the relevant report. China's position was made clear right at that time. In recent years, the two sides have set up and improved cooperation mechanisms for border affairs that are running smoothly and effectively. There are the China-India Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on Border Affairs which just held a meeting in Beijing at the beginning of this month and the border defense meeting mechanism. All these have helped increase mutual trust between the two sides and maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas. These mechanisms also demonstrate that as long as the two sides have the will to solve problems, they are capable and wise enough to make it happen and keep the border areas peaceful and stable. The Chinese side is ready to work in concert with the Indian side to safeguard peace and stability in the border areas and push for the sound and steady growth of bilateral relations.
