"Fire at Sea" - a harrowing documentary about Europe's refugee crisis - has clinched the top prize at the Berlin Film Festival, the Golden Bear. Meanwhile, Chinese film "Crosscurrent" has been awarded for "Outstanding Artistic Contribution".
For the first time ever, the Golden Bear award has gone to a documentary!
"Fire at Sea" was filmed on the Italian island of Lampedusa - the first destination for many migrants in their perilous journeys toward safety and a better life in Europe.

Director Gianfranco Rosi's perspective contrasts the native islanders' everyday life with that of the newcomers.

"I want to thank also the festival for having the courage to put a documentary again on the festival with feature films, so this was an enormous victory for me already. Thank you so much. Thank you," said Rosi.
Best-Actor and -Actress awards went to Majd Mastoura and Trine Dyrholm, respectively.
"I just want to thank the jury from the bottom of my heart for giving me this award. I'm so happy and proud to receive this in the world's best festival," said Trine Dyrholm, Best Actress winner.
Chinese film "Chang Jiang Tu" - English name "Crosscurrent" - was awarded with a Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution, acknowledging the cinematography of Mark Lee Ping-Bing.
