囧!iPhone6S竟和广告公司撞名


苹果即将在9月10日召开新品发布会,新一代iPhone或将被命名为iPhone 6S。不过,现有一家广告公司不乐意了,因为这家公司叫做6S Marketing,与iPhone 6s有重名之嫌。

这家纽约广告公司近日发出了一封公开信,希望苹果将直接手机命名为iPhone 7。在信中称,他们的客户一直称呼自己6S,2000年公司成立的时候开始就这样了,结果没想到世界上最大、最受尊重的公司之一会用它命名一款移动设备。

6S Marketing还解释说,之所以取名6S,是因为它很像success。
Apple has its routine down by now, and when September 9 rolls around the safe bet is that Apple will unveil two new iPhones, and they’ll be called the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

This naming scheme has been around for quite some time, dating back to the beginning with the iPhone 3GS, and Apple has stuck to its plans ever since. Of course, while anything is possible, all possible leaks and rumors up until this point have suggested that the iPhones unveiled on stage next week will be “iterative” updates, with the same form factor as the current iPhone model, and therefore garner the “S” designation.

Unfortunately for an ad agency called 6S Marketing, that’s not really the best possible news.

 



Right now, the agency is running a marketing campaign to bring to light the similar names, and even an open letter to Apple to try and dissuade the Cupertino-based company from naming their next phones iPhone 6s. The company has even taken out several different billboards, one of which is positioned in Times Square in New York City (as pictured above), to show that they’d really, really like the next phone to be called the “iPhone 7.”

On top of that, there’s even a hashtag: #WeAre6S
 

 


For its part, 6S Marketing has been around since 2000, albeit as a small entity located in one of the founder’s apartments. In the open letter, the company says that they chose “6S” as their name because it sounds similar to “success,” and that they’re known commonly just as “6S.”

“See, our company name is 6S Marketing, but our clients, friends, and colleagues simply refer to us as good ol’ “6S.” It’s a small name but a big part of our identity — one we’ve been using since 2000, when we started this company in my tiny apartment. At that time, we didn’t think that one of the biggest, and most well-respected, companies would use it to name a mobile device. (We were still using Motorola flip phones at the time, after all.)

The reason we chose the name “6S” is that it sound like “success” (get it?)”

While the request to change the next iPhones name might be sincere, considering that we’re less than a week away from Apple announcing the device, and rumors have been swirling that the new iPhone would be called the iPhone 6s since late last year, it would be easy to wave it off as merely a publicity stunt trying to capitalize on the build-up to Apple’s event.
