Top 10 most innovative companies in Asia 2014

One fourth of the top 100 spots were held by Asian companies, showing their growing innovative power, according to the latest list of the "World's Most Innovative Companies" released by Forbes.

U.S. companies took six of the top 10 spots, proving the country's leading stature in corporate innovation. Japan has the largest number of companies on the list of any Asian country, with seven companies.

However, countries in Southeast Asia, like Indonesia, are the real winners, with two companies holding the first two spots of the 10 most innovative companies in Asia, demonstrating the energetic and creative development that this region has undergone.

In addition, many technology tycoons who made headlines because of sky-high purchase prices have also made it onto the list.

Let's take a look at Top 10 most innovative companies in Asia in 2014:

福布斯网站8月21日发布了2014年度全球创新企业百强榜单。亚洲企业在该榜单上占据了四分之一的席位,其中,日本企业数量最多,为7家。

中国大陆企业中,河南双汇集团位列第24位,是中国大陆企业汇总排名最高的,紧随其后的是康师傅集团,排名第25位,恒安国际集团排名第26位,百度和腾讯分别位居第31和37位。

不过,东南亚可能才是真正的赢家。在排名前十的亚洲最具创新企业中,联合利华的印尼子公司和泰国便利店运营商CP All夺得冠亚军,这意味着该地区发展迅速的经济体也在变得更具活力和创造力。

在这份榜单中,所有公司的创新溢价都是根据各公司未来的创新成果(新的产品、服务和市场)对其股价的影响来计算的。进入这一排行榜的公司其市值必须达到100亿美元以上,至少有2.5%的营收用于研发,而且有连续七年的公开数据。

This major internet company boasts two instant messaging tools -- Wechat and QQ -- with the highest number of users. This year, Tencent is working hard to challenge Alibaba, China's e-commerce giant. The company recently bought 58.com, a website similar to Craigslist, in addition to the stock rights for the search engine Sougou and the logistics company China South City Co. Ltd.

Baidu, the biggest search engine in China, has spent US$650 million on research and development in order to offer more mobile services to users. It released a mobile pay service for Baidu Wallet in April. It has also invited Andrew Ng, a Google scientist, to be the director of its artificial intelligence laboratory.

The biggest meat processing company in China, Shuanghui purchased American pork producer Smithfield Foods, Inc. for US$4.7 billion in 2013. Inspired by top western marketing companies, it spent US$1.6 million to make a cartoon with characters that symbolize its products. Shuanghui also developed a quality control system to follow the conditions of 15 million pigs in its supply chain.

The company sent employees to spend two months experiencing rural life in order to understand their target consumers.
