Ukrainian Girl Proposes to Chinese Boyfriend on Valentine’s Day
26-year-old Ukrainian girl Sasha proposed to her 30-year-old boyfriend Dabin in Dujiangyan, Chengdu of Sichuan province on February 14. She danced with the popular song “Little Apple“ dressing in a panda suit, and then knelt on one knee and asked the man to marry her.
Around 11 am on February 14, six “pandas“ began to dance with the song “Little Apple“ around Dabin in a pavilion of the scenic spot Dujiangyan. When the dance ended, one of the “pandas“ took off her hood and knelt on one knee before Dabin. It was Sasha, Dabin’s girlfriend.
She presented a bunch of flowers to Dabin and said “ Dabin, marry me!“ The people around all began to applaud “Say yes!“
Surprised and touched, Dabin hugged Sasha and kissed her.
Dabin said Sasha told him she would have to work on Valentine’s Day the day before, so he went out with friends to Dujiangyan, not expecting such a romantic scene.
Sasha said she had been planning on this proposal for a long time secretly. The idea of dressing up like a panda came from Dabin, as “He often said I was his panda,“ Sasha said.
The 26-year-old Ukrainian girl travelled to Dujiangyan one year ago, and made a wish about meeting her Mr.Right. On her trip back to Chengdu, she met Dabin on the train.
“Dabin was sitting next to us. And he kept talking to us,“ said Xiaotong, a friend of Sasha’s. They had a good chat on the train and then exchanged contacts before getting off.
Several months later, when Dabin invited friends for a meal, his relationship with Sasha was finally exposed.
“We were quite surprised, and didn’t think the relationship would last long, because there would be huge cultural differences and they met on the train!“ Xiaotong said. However, the relationship moved on fast witnessed by the friends.
The biggest problem between Dabin and Sasha proved to be language. Sasha has been in Chengdu for 3 years. She speaks English and simple Chinese. As she started dating Dabin, she worked harder on her Chinese; Dabin, on the other hand, participated in an English tutoring class since he began seeing Sasha. Now the couple could communicate unimpeded with each other.
Sasha said she found Dabin “an honest and reliable man“. She told Xiaotong and other friends about the idea of marrying Dabin, then the friends started to help Sasha with plotting the proposal.
As for their parents, there shouldn’t be a problem, Xiaotong said. The couple had been to Ukraine and met Sasha’s parents, and Dabin would always bring Sasha to his parents’ home in Chengdu on holidays.
“I guess the wedding won’t be a long wait. Bless them!“ said Xiaotong smilingly.
