The number of Chinese citizens who have reported close contact with the country's first Middle East Respiratory Syndrome patient has risen to 47.
All 47 have been placed in quarantine. The outbreak has been traced to a South Korean who visited the Middle East before traveling to southern China. The 44-year-old man remains in quarantine at a hospital in Huizhou City in southern China's Guangdong Province where he is receiving treatment. Health authorities say he has a fever, but is in stable condition. The man flew from the South Korea to Hong Kong on Tuesday and entered Huizhou City via Shenzhen. Because the patient travelled to crowded areas, authorities are warning it's very likely the infection will spread in Guangdong...which has a population of more than 100-million.
So far, no one else in China has tested positive for the virus. The disease has a fatality rate of 40 point seven. There is no vaccine or treatment.
Meanwhile, health authorities in South Korea say 15 people have contracted the virus countrywide. The first confirmed case in South Korea was found in a 68-year-old man who travelled to Bahrain in April and May. （英文文本 via CNTV）
