From Washington, this is VOA News.

Ukraine launches new attacks on pro-Russian separatists. Mass car bombing in northeastern Nigeria. I'm Ray Kouguell reporting from Washington.

Ukraine launched new military operations Tuesday against pro-Russian separatists in the eastern part of the country just hours after the expiration of a unilateral ceasefire. The Ukrainian government claims its forces have retaken one of the checkpoints along the border with Russia that have been seized by rebel forces.

The U.S. and its European allies have accused Russia of arming the insurgents in eastern Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin for his part is directly blaming Ukrainian President Poroshenko for the renewed fighting.

Tens of thousands of mourners joined in central Israel for a funeral service for three teenagers found dead in the West Bank almost three weeks after they disappeared. The three were buried Tuesday in the Israeli town of Modiin. Israeli leaders have accused Hamas militant group of abducting and killing them. Hamas denies any involvement.

The deaths are prompting enough pouring of national grief and angry calls for revenge. Both Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres spoke at the funeral vowing to punish Hamas. Israeli troops have raided the homes of two men suspected of abducting the teenagers. Israel says they are members of Hamas. Robert Burger has more.

The abduction and murders are putting pressure on western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas a month after he angered Israel by forming a unity government with Hamas. Israeli spokesman Mark Regev.

President Abbas must now immediately annul his pact with Hamas. If the Palestinian leadership says that it's opposed to terrorism, they cannot be in a political alliance with the murderers of children.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the group does not want an escalating cycle of violence. But he said that Israel launches a war on Gaza, Hamas is prepared to defend the Palestinian people. Robert Burger, for VOA News, Jerusalem.

The self-appointed leader of the newly-proclaimed Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is demanding all Muslims immigrate there and take up arms.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi posted an audio message on Islamist websites Tuesday, saying the new state is for all Muslims, regardless of skin color or nationality.

Sunni extremists from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant proclaimed a sovereign state for Muslims earlier this week. ISIL has seized much of northern Iraq and it's one of the rebel groups fighting to topple the Syrian government.

A massive car bomb explosion in northeastern Nigeria killed at least 15 people. Eyewitnesses say the death toll would probably go much higher. The blast on Tuesday at a popular market in the city of Maiduguri came from explosives hidden in the back of a pickup truck or van.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Tens of thousands of people took to the rainy streets of Hong Kong Tuesday in a political protest on the 17th anniversary of the former British colony returned to Chinese governance. Marchers spent the public holiday demanding reforms to reduce Beijing's direct influence in Hong Kong elections.

Europe's highest court rejected claims that France's ban of a face-covering veil is discriminatory and violate religious freedom. Lisa Briant has details from Paris on Tuesday's ruling by the European Court of Human Rights.

In its ruling, the European Court of Human Rights rejected a petition by a young Muslim woman that France's 2010 veil ban violated her rights and amounted to discrimination.

The Strasbourg-based court found the legislation did not violate the European Convention on Human Rights.

The French law bans most face-covering garments including the Islamic face veil, or niqab, and Afghan-style burqa.

French authorities argue the measure is important not only for security reasons but because the face veils violate France's secularist creed and women's rights. The ban has sparked controversy with some Muslims arguing it unfairly singles them out. Lisa Briant, for VOA News, Paris.

And former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is in custody of financial investigators, or being questioned about inside information he allegedly received about a campaign finance probe. I'm Ray Kouguell in Washington. That's the latest world news from VOA.

欧洲最高法庭驳回了关于法国的遮脸禁令违反了宗教自由和关乎种族歧视的提案。Lisa Briant 对巴黎欧洲人权法院周二做出的裁定将进行详细报道。
