From Washington, this is VOA News.

Tension to talk in Israel after the slaying of a Palestinian teenager. The U.S. is increasing security at certain overseas airports with direct flights to the United States. I'm Ira Mellman at the VOA Broadcast Center in Washington.

Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians are running high fueling a possible revenge killing following the funeral of three kidnapped Jewish teens. Robert Burger has more for VOA from Jerusalem.

Israeli police fired tear gas at hundreds of stone-throwing Palestinians in an Arab suburb of Jerusalem. The clashes erupted after a Palestinian youth from the neighborhood was found dead. Residents say he was kidnapped outside a mosque and killed in revenge for the murder of three Israeli teenagers who were allegedly abducted by Palestinian militants. Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino urged the public not to draw conclusions and to act with restraint. Robert Burger, Jerusalem.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanayahu is urging all sides not to take the law into their own hands. He calls the killing of the Palestinian teenager "reprehensible". In Washington, White House spokesman Josh Earnest has called the murder of Abu Khdeir as "heinous" and urged both Israeli and Palestinian authorities to prevent tensions from escalating.

The U.S. Homeland Security Chief Jeh Johnson says the United States is increasing security at certain overseas airports with direct flights to the United States. Johnson said Wednesday his department continually accesses the global threat environment and reevaluates measures to promote airport security. He gave no information on what prompted the latest move or which airports are involved. Obama Administration officials have told western news agencies that the U.S. planned to boost security at some foreign airports over concerns that al-Qaeda may be developing new bombs that could be smuggled onto an airplane.

The Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany say talks aimed at resuming a ceasefire between the Ukrainian military and pro-Russian rebels should begin no later than Saturday. The diplomats meeting Wednesday in Berlin announced their consensus in a statement as fighting raged near the Russian border. They say the preliminary talks were aimed to establish an unconditional and mutually agreed sustainable ceasefire monitored by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. No venue or other details of the talks had been announced by early Thursday. Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko declared a unilateral week-long ceasefire June 20th and then extended it by three days. Citing lack of cooperation from rebels, he refused the second extension and ordered new military operations on Tuesday.

As delegates from Iran and six world powers arrived in Vienna for a marathon final round of talks, Iran says it is ready to take concrete steps to ensure its nuclear program remains peaceful but will not kneel in submission. Speaking in a video message posted on Youtube, the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif urged negotiators to use mutual respect in negotiations rather than what he called "a spiral of escalation".

Health Ministers from across West Africa are attending an emergency conference in Ghana to discuss the regional outbreak of Ebola virus disease there. The World Health Organization says the highly infectious disease has killed more than 400 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Henry Ridgwell has the more from London for VOA.

Police and medical workers man checkpoints on the outskirts of Kenema in Sierra Leone, the site of an Ebola outbreak that is spreading across West Africa. Authorities are forcing people to test for the disease, some victims try to avoid detection, preferring to die in secret. Ebola causes fever, vomiting, bleeding and diarrhea. It is spread through contact with the blood or other fluids of infected people. Doctors say a lack of understanding is contributing to its rapid spread. Porous borders between the infected countries make it difficult to contain. The death toll from the outbreak is growing. Doctors warn the response has so far been far from adequate. Henry Ridgwell, for VOA News, London.

The death toll in a building collapse in the southern Indian city of Chennai has risen to 47, as hopes of finding any more survivors fade.

I'm Ira Mellman in Washington. That's the latest world news from VOA.
