BBC News with Jerry Smit

President Obama has gone to Colorado to meet victims and relatives of Friday's mass shooting at a cinema in the Denver suburb of Aurora. Mr Obama is visiting some of the injured and meeting families who lost loved ones. The governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper, said those involved were determined to overcome the trauma.

"The state is heartbroken. I think it was Hemingway who says the world breaks us all but afterward we're stronger in the broken places, and I think that's what we heard in the hospitals yesterday. We went to many of the hospitals and visited families and the victims. And there was a buoyancy. There's already the resilience here where people were not going to let this, you know, define their life. They were going to fight back."
