China "considering" eurozone rescue plan

中国“考虑”欧元区援救计划

Anchor

China said it is mulling closer involvement in the European rescue funds as German Chancellor Angela Merkel continues her 3-day official visit in the country.

Our reporter Su Yi has more

Reporter:

Merkel has been spending much of her time trying to reassure her Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao that European countries will work together to keep the euro stable.

"I was told that China was prepared to apply itself to a stable euro as part of the shared responsibility for a stable world economy. At the same time, it is of course clear that the main task lies with the countries of Europe, we have to do our homework, we have to solve our problems."

For his part, Wen Jiabao says China is now "considering" contributing more to the European rescue funds.

However, Wen Jiabao did take time to suggest China isn't too impressed with the idea of sanctions on Iranian oil.

"China objects to politicizing the normal commercial exchanges. China's normal economic and trade relationship with Iran, including crude oil business, will not violate the international laws and the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council."

Merkel is set to meet with Chinese president Hu Jintao today before traveling to the southern economic hub of Guangzhou, which is home to some 4 hundred German companies.

She'll be accompanied by Wen Jiabao.

China sends work team to Libya

中国派工作小组前往利比亚

A Chinese work team is on its way to Libya to exchange views on participation in the nation’s post-war reconstruction.

The work team will spend four days visiting Tripoli and Benghazi to assess the damage to Chinese companies' assets.

The team hopes to work with Libyan officials to resume Chinese projects in the country.

China to ask South Sudan for help on kidnapped workers

中国要求南苏丹帮助援救被绑架中国工人

China is pressing South Sudan for help in securing the release of 29 Chinese workers held captive in Sudan for five days.

The Chinese rescue team will conduct negotiations with officials in South Sudan’s capital Juba.

China may appeal to the African Union and other parties to mediate negotiations.

Reuters reports the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) has asked China to pressure Sudan to supply the rebel-held South Kordofan and Blue Nile areas with food and emergency aid, though that was not stated as a condition for the release of the workers.

While the workers were captured in Sudan many believe South Sudan has the strongest connection to the rebel SPLM-North.

Xinjiang rolls out big job creation program

新疆推出计划 创更多就业机会

Authorities in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region are aiming to provide about 400,000 new jobs this year.

The government is rolling out measures to ensure 85 percent of this year's college graduates are able to find jobs.

The move hopes to lift poor Uygur families out of poverty and prevent young people from turning to crime.

About 30 percent of the urban residents in the region cannot find jobs, forcing around 2 million people to migrate to larger cities to find work.

Beijing plans new residence permit

背景计划发行新的居住证

Beijing plans to launch a new residence permit system to replace temporary licenses for migrant workers in 2012.

The city’s vice-mayor Liu Jingmin says the new system will allow people to enjoy more public services than the current temporary pass.

The move also allows the city's government to have a clearer understanding of Beijing's population, jobs and public resources.

Experts predict the residence permit will provide migrants the same rights as Beijingers in the fields of public transport, employment, social security and medical insurance. But their rights in housing, car ownership, and children's schooling will still be limited.

That wraps up today's China report. Thank you, Zengliang. Don't forget to check us out for more on our weibo todayonbeyondbejing.
